Our natural state is one of health, happiness and an inner sense of well-being. Health is defined as the body being clear of toxins, the mind is at peace, emotions are calm and happy, wastes are efficiently eliminated and organs are functioning normally. In a busy, stressful and toxic world, our physical and mental systems accumulate toxins causing deterioration in bodily functioning. This eventually weakens our systems, which opens the door for chronic, degenerative, and non-specific diseases to develop. These can evolve into serious specific diseases, ultimately damaging an individual’s health and wellness.
As students of yoga it becomes clear that diet is essential to health. We become what we eat. Food should nourish our bodies and mind’s. In fact the food we eat transforms and literally becomes our tissues. The body based practices in yoga (called asana ) work with the tissues the muscular energy and the subtle energy held in the tissues. As well as the blockages that can arises physically on the path of yoga. At Pranamaya our mission is to help our students cultivate vitality and wisdom energy that is inherit in our bodies. Our “ Food & Yoga “ program is an opportunity to harness the power of your prana ( your vitality ) through the food you eat, the thoughts you generate, and the energy you extend to the world.
There is a tremendous wealth of knowledge in yoga practice that addresses health and wellness. These teachings are called Ayurveda. Ayurveda is Known as “the science of life”. Ayurveda is rooted in Indian philosophy, and an idea that food is medicine, and food should be a source of nourishment that increases our vitality, happiness, and state of being. Sadly the stress of contemporary life has many sides effects which include, overeating, emotionally eating, and stress eating. Furthermore we have forgotten the art of preparing food and replaced it with “fast convenient food”
The intention of ” Food & Yoga” is to help our students find joy and ritual in the process of preparing food and nourishing the body.
