There are many different styles of yoga practice, diverse methods, and individual lineages. There is not one single yoga philosophy. Yoga is an umbrella term that covers many traditions and practices. Formally, Yoga is one of the six schools of Indian philosophy called darshanas. It is a Sanskrit word that is translated as follows: ‘to yoke’, “to unite” or “union”. The practice of yoga encourages an experiential understanding of the interconnected nature of life. It is a path of self-transformation, self-exploration, and awakening. Each class is an invitation to open up and touch the essence of life.

Our studios offer several styles of yoga. Whether you are looking for stress reduction, strength and flexibility, or a more calm and balanced mind, we understand that different students have different needs. We do our best to offer multiple styles and classes with a diverse group of teachers. Our wish is to support self-understanding benefiting individuals and communities as a whole.

Vinyasa Flow

In Vinyasa you will learn how to flow with the breath.In Vinyasa you will learn how to flow with the breath. With Practice you learn how to be transformed by your breath and open into a new dimension of conscious movement. The interconnections between breath, body, and mind are experienced as you move towards the essence of yoga. The dynamic nature of the practice gives you something tangible to focus on. The more you focus on the movement of your breath, the more you are able to move into the present. The practice becomes a moving meditation. While balance, strength, flexibility and openness begin to arise in your physical being; you begin to feel the more subtle energetic awakenings throughout your subtle systems. The practice will help you feel both relaxed and revitalized. Vinyasa yoga challenges you to move out of habitual holding patterns within your body and mind. And rest in the dynamic nature of the present moment.

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga yoga classes focus on a specific set of postures linked by dynamic movement.Ashtanga yoga classes focus on a specific set of postures linked by dynamic movement. The sequence is practiced again and again as the student refines each posture. The dynamic nature of the practice comes from a physically demanding transition between poses. This transitional movement is know as a “vinyasa”; a vinyasa in an upward and downward flow of movement. This continuous flow creates a strong and stimulating experience. The practice also encourages students to work with inner energy through a yogic technique called “banda”. Bandhas are methods to hold, balance, and maintain subtle internal energy. Your body and mind are challenged to move in new dynamic ways bringing a depth of focus creating physical, mental and emotional strength. This yoga class is accessible to all yoga practitioners regardless of their level or previous practice. Classes are modified to the student so that all can participate fully at their own level.

Level 2 classes

Students who have explored Ashtanga and Vinyasa practice and have established a strong foundation are encouraged to addend a level 2 class.Students who have a well established and committed practice in any tradition are encouraged to attended a level 2 class. This class focuses on more advanced postures where breath, bandha, and drishti are all combined to experience both inner and outer expressions of asanas. Focus is placed on the physical refinement of the body while tapping into the more subtle energetic channels. Enhancing the practice with pranayama methods as well as training the mind to relax into the experience takes patience, diligence, and effort. While the goal is not to attain a particular shape with the body, the actual process of unfolding and opening the inner knots within the body is transformational and deep. Without some steadiness of mind and body the more subtle essence of an advanced practice will not arise, and it cannot be forced. This is why this class isn’t recommended for beginners. This class is about becoming increasingly more aware of the body-mind connection.

Iyengar Yoga

“Iyengar” Yoga is named after the renowned Indian yoga teacher B.K.S .Iyengar. He stresses the importance of good body alignment, concentration, breath, and awareness.“Iyengar” Yoga is named after the renowned Indian yoga teacher B.K.S .Iyengar.

You will be guided to move strategically from one asana (posture) to the next. By focusing on details and precise movements you will clear your mind of built up stresses and gain peace and mental clarity. Different props are used to support you in order to experience the pose in the most refined and aligned manner. Each class has a special focus, such as hip opening or back bends. Each class ends with a deep relaxation on the back to enable the body and mind to become calm and relaxed.

Sivananda Yoga

Classes follow a general sequence of poses considered to be the 12 most important poses in this lineage. The class begins with a strong warm up of surya namaskara (sun salutations) and incorporates breathing methods ( pranamyama) and deep relaxation. This class is open to anyone who wants to try yoga for the first time and for experienced practitioners alike.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha yoga is a traditional method to bring awareness to the physical body as well as the inner energetic body.With “Ha” meaning sun and “Tha” meaning moon, hatha yoga is commonly know as the yoga that brings union to pairs of opposites. The practice of postures allows you to clear tightness and experience openness in mind and body. One progresses through the outer identification of body towards an inward understanding of the subtle experiences of mind. Hatha classes are generally more slow paced and available to beginners and seasoned practitioners.

Giving your body rest and nourishment in order to deal with the ups and downs of contemporary life. Poses are intended to be gentle and healing giving your body the right conditions to find inner balance. All the poses are therapeutic and bring benefit in the following ways: you restore your life energy, release physical and emotional tension, you restore and improve functioning of different organs and systems of your body (digestion, blood and lymph circulation, breathing etc), and also to relax your spine and keep it healthy. Restorative yoga is a gift to you, an opportunity to deeply relax. Take advantage and enjoy.

Hatha practices are designed to align and calm your body and mind in preparation for meditation. This class incorporates all aspects of a traditional Hatha yoga class; breath, meditation and postures while challenging your co-ordination through movement. There is less emphasis on the dynamic surya namaskar sequence of movements, and more focus on a steady flow to build stability, strength, focus and openness. This class is open to all levels.

Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a deep and introspective practice. It is also an effective method to prepare the body for meditation.Yin yoga is a deep and introspective practice. It is also an effective method to prepare the body for meditation. Physically, the primary intention is to stimulate the underlying tissues that wrap around the joints. Stretching and strengthening the connective tissues in the joints is therapeutic when done with proper alignment. Long holds awaken the subtle energetic body, which restores vital energy and creates optimal balance within. A typical yin pose is held for 3-7 minutes, and a good Yin practice is comparable to an acupuncture session, where the vital organs are nourished and Chi (prana) is renewed.

Yin and Yang are terms found is Chinese philosophy which describe how seemingly opposite or contrary forces may actually be complementary, interconneted and interdependent in the natural world. In this class you will be guided to explore and experience how these forces of energy give rise to each other. This class is open to all levels of practitioners.

This class is our effort to support your path of self discovery and create a supportive space to investigate this amazing thing we call mind. Our teachers come from a variety of traditions and backgrounds and thus our meditations classes will vary depending on the teacher.
