“From an early age I’ve had an interest in traveling. I always felt a strong and special connection to Asia, where I took my first yoga class, in 2007, in Chiang Mai, Thailand”
After two years of intense traveling and practicing Yoga all over the world Carlijn settled in her hometown in the Netherlands, where she attended Iyengar Yoga classes. She totally loved it, and set up her regular practice, which she’s never left, although later she quit the Iyengar method and chose Ashtanga-Vinyasa.
In 2012 she moved to Shanghai and worked in the fashion industry. Yoga was her daily practice, and in 2014 she became a part of “Yoga Garden” – the community-oriented yoga studio in the heart of Shanghai’s former French Concession. She practiced intensively; around 5 to 6 times per week, and while taking a sabbatical, she attended a 200 hours multi-style teacher training course at Trimurti Yoga in India. “The course allowed me to expand my knowledge of different yoga styles and traditional yogic philosophy while discovering how much I love to teach” – says Carlijn.
On her return to Shanghai she started teaching Ashtanga-Vinyasa, Vinyasa Flow and Hatha at the Yoga Garden. At the end of 2015 she quit her job in Shanghai to pursue her career in yoga, where she felt she could finally really share her passion. She completed a traditional and intense Ashtanga-Vinyasa teacher training in Kerala, India, and soon after she started teaching yoga at Trimurti Yoga, she is one of the main teachers for their 200-hrs yoga teacher training courses. When Carlijn is not in India, she spends her time in her second home in Kathmandu. You can meet her in Ashtanga-Vinyasa, Hatha (traditional and flow) and Vinyasa Flow classes at Pranamaya Yoga. Her classes are creative and focused on alignment and adjustments. She cannot wait to share her passion for yoga with you.
